Air labels, or etiquettes, are standard-sized blue labels used by UPU member nations to denote airmail carriage. They are inscribed '~' (French for 'By Airmail'). The text usually includes the same message in the language of the native country.

Airmail Label: labels inscribed ~ or equivalent, meaning that the item was to be transported by air mail services. 1918, 17 August: France issued first example, being black on redpaper. 1922: the U.P.U.
